EPISODE 2: CONSTRUCTION

Originally, the Basilica had a target date of finishing in 2026 but during the pandemic, construction stopped for 5 months and delayed the building process.

Update: The Basilica recently updated the finishing date of 2026 without completing the stairway leading up to the Glory facade entrance. Hmm. That's an optimistic date but let's see.

Of course, it's worth remembering - Gaudí famously said that his client (God), is not in a hurry.

1. Truck entrance.

2. Positioning crane.

3. Main customized crane. Its difficult to see but this is now the main crane that will be used to build the cross that will be the Basilicas center piece. It will also be used to Build the Glory Façade on the opposite side of the Basilica from where you are now. It was placed there in March of 2024. It's going to be awwwwesome to see parts of the church going up with new crane!!

4. This crane is also a newer addition that is being used help build a maneuver the Mary Chapel, (you can see an illustration of it posted on the retainer wall) and all the variable parts that are delivered and positioned to be hoisted up by the main crane (#3).

5. Tower dedicated to Gospel writer, St. Luke.

6. Tower dedicated to Mary, The Morning Star.

7. Future location of the second Sacristy. It will be identical to the existing Sacristy found on the other side of the Mary Tower.
